What’s Happening in ReFi?
We’re kicking off a series of new exclusive interviews, this week featuring:
Will Masters and Scott Kilgore sat down with ClimateDAO to discuss the exciting and desperately needed work being done at Ogallala Life and ReFi Punks. Their ambition originated from witnessing the beautiful land and bountiful aquifer, vital to farm and crop production in the United States, be depleted, stripped, mined, and contaminated. In a push to enrich and empower the local communities impacted by desertification, climate change, and resource harvesting, Ogallala Life aims to make the central and southern Great Plains a world leader in sustainability and restoration.
One uniquely powerful focus of Ogallala Life is educational outreach, which centers around relevant messaging for local landowners and farmers. By forming their narrative around water, the team has identified a salient and observable issue that those residing in the Plains and the West are facing. An additional endeavor is their partnership with West Texas A&M University. The school invited the Ogallala team to talk about ReFi and Regen projects, which led to a powerful and inspiring partnership.
A group of West Texas A&M University students will soon be traveling from Texas to the Enactus semi-finals in New York City to present the work and mission being done by Ogallala Life for their community and the planet.
ReFi Punks, which aims to bring ReFi communities together to benefit various causes, intends to enable additional ReFi education initiatives as voted on by the people and groups who are most in-need. Following the success of the sold-out Acre NFT, whose holders are automatically whitelisted for ReFi Punk NFTs, Scott has crafted a proposal to make all NFTs launched on the Stargaze chain carbon-neutral, and even carbon-negative. This would mark the breakthrough use of a sovereign NFT chain that would be carbon-neutral on a protocol level, becoming the “go-to” place for green NFT creation and minting.
Throughout our conversation collaboration emerged as a noticeable theme. Whether it was with REGEN, ECORISE, West Texas A&M, or local landowners, it is clear that the team sees the strength in Web3 projects co-existing rather than competing.
Their parting wisdom serves as a call-to-action for everyone who cares about the future of the planet:
“The novel tools in this new open landscape give reason for hope. But don’t be complacent or think that we’ve made a dent; it is still early and we are fighting an immense global marketplace that is against us.”
